Book Review:
This edition of D C Dutta's Gynaecology Textbook is a very detailed practical gynaecology textbook for undergraduate students, postgraduate students and even practitioners.
It's published clearly, and simple to understand. Several more recent subjects have been included and discussed.
Classification of POP in prolapse and the use of meshes to repair prolapse, AUB, colposcopy, cancer chemotherapy to name a few. A segment entitled "Special Subjects" addresses leucorrhoea, abdominal pain and low backache. These problems that are typical concerns of any gynaecology OPD need to be discussed in order for the teaching to be effectively focused.
Moving in depth the teenage gynaecology, sexual addiction and abortion is welcome.
Current developments are being explored in immunotherapy, gene therapy, operative gynaecological endoscopy and emerging issues such as stem cells, and this offers the reader an overview of such subjects.
In the section on functional gynaecology, instruments, tests, image studies pictures are discussed in great detail with corresponding questions and answers that have an explicit standardized clinical test (OSCE) style that lets students prepare for exam.
The numerous images, charts, equations, diagrams, frames, and image analysis pictures promote interpretation of topics.
Adding a DVD that features the two most popular gynaecology operations, abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and vaginal hysterectomy adds importance to the text.
